I just read a wonderful book, complete with numerous photographs, entitled "The Family and the revolution of Gracie jiu jitsu": page after page after interview interview, I got to know more anecdotes, interesting facts and statements of members of the "clan" that has really revolutionized the world of combat sports and martial arts like no other before.
I believe that the Gracie style, although it is idolized by most practitioners of jiu jitsu, certain things have been a bit 'forgot ... I refer in particular to research almost exasperated, jiu jitsu in modern sports, positions and strategies that would be just like the late, great Carlos, Helio and Carlson Gracie.
one time it was finalizing the search for the primary purpose, which was to the detriment of all, unlike today, many (not saying all) are looking over the "strategy advantage" point swiped from a particular location maybe almost unrealistic and that, of course, would never be attempted in a Vale Tudo: we think example the so-called "Fifty - fifty guard", which led to performances nothing short of unwatchable even in top world tournaments ...
not forget that jiu jitsu was excited and exploded at a global level due to its effectiveness in MMA tournaments ... thus reminding us that it is a fighting style that would lead to victory but also and primarily a real fight ..!
Personally, I am encouraging my students to try everything and have fun, we also miss ... maybe even making a "Tornado Roll" or "50 - 50" ... but do not overdo ... devoting maximum effort to the basics of real struggle and finalization ... for chiseling and blows up (to do only in competitions without shots ..!) there will be time ... Roger Gracie, and remember ... multi multi multi world champion thanks to the fundamental techniques and still imbattutto in MMA ...
